Infrastructure of the Museum's Main Building
1. Planning and Design Concepts:
Regarding the structure of the Southern Branch Museum, the three techniques of Chinese ink wash painting comprising the nongmo (flying white), feibai (thick dark ink), and xuanran (applying colors to drawings) were employed to form the real mass (i.e., the artifact display areas and artifact storerooms), virtual mass (i.e., the public reception areas), and mass connecting the real and virtual masses. These three "masses" symbolize the three diversified and long-lasting Asian civilizations of China, India, and Persia, and enable the Southern Branch Museum to fulfill its purpose as an Asian Arts and Culture Museum. Regarding the design of the museum infrastructure, the landscape bridge, and the surrounding landscape, it was administered by Kris Yao, founder of Artech – Inc., whose duty was to turn them into diamond-level "green" buildings. The design of the main building infrastructure employed the highest level of shockproof measures, in which base isolation was used to design shock isolation to enhance the shock resistance of the buildings. The buildings also have flood and drought-resistant capabilities, making them gold-level "smart" building.
Green building : Scored 59.22 on the 2009 green building rating assessment, equivalent to the diamond level.
Smart building : To elevate the operational management efficiency of the museum, meet security requirements, and achieve the goals of disaster prevention, convenient museum operations, and health and comfort-oriented museum buildings, application for the gold-level smart mark was submitted.
Flood-resistant design : The floor elevation of the museum buildings was set at 11M, higher than the 200-year recurrence interval.
2.Important Project Progress and Current Project Status:
The museum area, which measures approximately 20 hectares in size, served as the location in which the museum main building infrastructure and landscape bridge projects were to be completed. Landscape Bridge
1. Planning and Design Concepts:
The Southern Branch Museum main building infrastructure is composed of two streamlined structures, which represent the dragon, elephant, and horse, which are culturally-meaningful symbols. To echo the shape and style of the main building, a form similar to the cursive script used in Chinese calligraphy was adopted for the design and the structural shape and style of the landscape bridge. The landscape bridge and its rhythmic appeal will draw visitors to the main building and provide them with the most unique and pleasant walking experience.
The landscape bridge spans across the southern artificial lake and guides visitors from the circular dragon-horse-elephant plaza to the main hall on the second floor of a museum building. Because the distance between the two ends of the artificial lake is approximately 130 meters in length, to prevent bridge piers from influencing the waterproof effect of the bottom of the artificial lake, a macroscopic, 140-meter wide arch bridge design (without piers) was used.
2. Important Project Progress and Current Project Status:

Park View
1. Planning and Design Concepts:
To expedite the overall construction progress, in addition to building the green infrastructure, the NPM initiated the promotion of private participation and a bidding process to encourage the private sector to participate in the construction and operation of the Southern Branch Museum. The objective is for the private sector to work jointly with the NPM to build an Asian cultural experience area and create a high-quality environment for culture and leisure. The Southern Branch Construction Project uses only non-urban land listed as "land for special objective undertakings." The land, which measures approximately 19.15 hectares in extent, is divided into four areas, comprising of a cultural experience and recreation area, a lodging area, a public facilities area, and a green infrastructure area.
